Timeline
Projects evolve over time, and all changes are stored within the project’s data. In some cases, members may need to view how the project looked at a specific point in the past.
For this purpose, GeoWork provides a feature called the timeline.
The timeline allows users to “move the project back in time” and view its past state.
Timeline UI
When enabled, the timeline appears as a panel at the bottom center of the screen, over the map.
It consists of several parts:
-
Date and time input field (left side)
- This field allows you to enter the exact date and time you want to view.
-
Calendar button
- Opens a calendar view, allowing you to select a date instead of typing it manually.
-
Timeline slider (bottom bar)
-
After selecting a date, a blue timeline bar appears across the bottom:
- The center represents the selected date
- The blue circle can be dragged:
- Left → moves further into the past
- Right → moves closer to the selected date
-
-
Time scale controls (right side)
- Displays the current time step (e.g. “7 Days”)
- + / – buttons adjust how much time each step on the slider represents
-
"Show current status" checkbox
- When checked, the timeline is reset and the project is displayed in its current (real-time) state.
Enable the timeline into the project
Before the timeline can be used, it must be enabled for the project.
To enable it:
- Go to the Features enabled section in the project settings
- Turn on the "Timeline" switch
If disabled, the feature will not be available to any project members.
Please refer to the Features enabled section in the project settings for more detailed information.
Use the timeline
Once the timeline feature is enabled, it can be used directly from the project view.
To use the timeline:
- Locate the timeline bar at the bottom of the screen
- Click on the date and time field on the left side
- Either:
- Manually enter a specific date and time, or
- Click the calendar icon and select a date
- Use the timeline slider:
- Drag the blue circle to move through time
- Left = further in the past
- Right = closer to the selected date
- (Optional) Adjust the time scale:
- Use the + and – buttons
- This changes how much time each step represents
- Observe the map:
- The project updates to reflect the selected moment in time
Return to the present
To return to the current state of the project:
- Check the "Show current status" checkbox
- The timeline will reset and the project will be displayed in real time.
