Marker States
Marker states are a configurable attribute of a marker that provide additional context about its meaning or current condition. They help users quickly understand the purpose or status of a marker when viewing it on the map.
States are defined within a project and can represent different categories, conditions, or stages relevant to the workflow of that project. By assigning a state to a marker, users can communicate important information without requiring additional explanation.
For states to be effective, they should be named clearly and consistently so that their meaning is immediately understandable to other users interacting with the project.
Example
Consider a state named "Suspicious".
If a user assigns the "Suspicious" state to a marker, it indicates that the marked location may require attention or caution. Other users viewing the map can immediately recognize this status and respond accordingly.
For example, a user responsible for investigating flagged locations may navigate to the marker to inspect the area. Another user who has been instructed to avoid uncertain situations may instead choose to avoid the location.
Sub-states
Sub-states are used to provide additional detail for a marker that already has an assigned state. They function as secondary classifications that refine or expand the meaning of the primary state.
A sub-state can only be assigned after a state has been selected. This allows markers to retain a broad classification through the main state while communicating more specific information through the sub-state.
Sub-states are particularly useful in workflows where the general category of a marker should remain unchanged, while additional findings or outcomes need to be recorded.
Example
Consider a state named "Suspicious", with two sub-states: "Benign" and "Dangerous".
If a marker is initially flagged as "Suspicious", it indicates that the location requires attention. A user may later approach the location and investigate it. After the inspection, the user may want to keep the main state "Suspicious" for organizational or reporting purposes while still recording the outcome of the inspection.
