Properties (Property keys)

Properties (also referred to as property keys) are used to store measurable or descriptive data related to a specific marker.

They are accessible in the Properties tab within the marker UI. This section is primarily used to store structured information such as physical values (e.g. temperature, pressure, speed) or custom data defined by the user.

By default, markers do not contain any property keys unless:

  • They are added manually to the marker
  • They are defined globally in the Default resource properties section of the project settings

Available property types

Each property key must have a defined type. The type determines:

  • What kind of data the property represents
  • Which units are available (if applicable)

The following property types are available:

  • Acceleration
  • Angle
  • Apparent Power
  • Area
  • Charge
  • Current
  • Digital
  • Energy
  • Force
  • Frequency
  • Illuminance
  • Length

Properties tab UI

The Properties tab consists of two main elements:

  1. The Edit properties button
  2. The property key list

1. Edit properties button

The Edit properties button opens a pop-up window where all property management actions are performed.

1.1. Edit properties UI

The edit window is structured into several parts:

1.1.1. Property key list

The central part of the window contains a table of all property keys assigned to the marker.

Each row represents one property and includes:

  • Key – the name of the property
  • Type – the type of data the property represents
  • Value – a field where the value can be entered or edited
  • Unit – a dropdown menu (if applicable) allowing selection of measurement units
  • Remove icon – a button (cross icon) used to remove the property from the marker

1.1.2. Add new property key

At the bottom of the window is the section used to create a new property key for the marker.

Properties added here are unique to the selected marker and do not affect other markers in the project.

To add a new property key:

  1. Enter a name in the New property key field
  2. Select a property type from the dropdown menu
  3. (Optional) Select a unit if the chosen type supports units
  4. Click the Add button

The new property will appear in the property list above.

1.1.3. Confirmation buttons

At the bottom of the window are two action buttons:

  • Save

    • Applies all changes made in the edit window
  • Cancel

    • Discards all changes made since the window was opened

1.1.4. Close (cross) button

A cross icon is located in the top-right corner of the window.

  • Clicking it closes the window
  • Any unsaved changes will be discarded

2. Property key list

Below the Edit properties button (in the main marker UI) is a table displaying all property keys assigned to the marker.

Each row contains:

  • The property key name
  • The current value
  • The unit selector (if applicable)

Within this table:

  • Values can be viewed directly
  • Units can be changed using the dropdown menu next to the value

Default resource properties

Property keys can also be defined globally for the entire project.

These are managed in the Default resource properties section of the project settings.

When a property key is created there:

  • It is automatically applied to all markers in the project
  • It appears in the properties of every marker by default

This is useful for ensuring consistent data collection across the project.
